Starting in early 2021, the TTC is adjusting streetcar service to prepare for a busy construction season across Toronto. These projects help the TTC to continue modernizing its streetcar network by replacing track and overhead systems, while co-ordinating with other City of Toronto initiatives, such as rehabilitating water infrastructure, improving pedestrian safety and enhancing streetscapes.

Intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue

Construction starts early 2021 to replace streetcar tracks and overhead wiring, water mains and sewers at the complex intersection. When complete, the project will extend the dedicated streetcar right-of-way, enhance streetcar stops and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Starting January 3, 2021, buses replace streetcars along the 301 / 501 Queen routes between Long Branch Loop and Jarvis Street and replace streetcars along the 304 / 504A King routes between Dundas West Station and Shaw Street.

Queen Street West track and overhead upgrades

Co-ordinating with the project at Queen West / King West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles, the TTC is also be replacing track west of downtown in stages to minimize disruption. Replacement buses detour around sections of Queen Street where track work is taking place. The TTC is encouraging passengers to board streetcars along the 304 / 504 King routes east of Dufferin Street. The TTC is also replacing the overhead on the rest of the Queen Street corridor, including on Queen Street East in the Beach, requiring the TTC to replace the cars with buses in fall 2021.

Gerrard Street East / Main Street overhead upgrades
Main Street Station pavement rehabilitation

Starting January 3, 2021, streetcar service returns between High Park Loop and Broadview Avenue. Buses continue to operate between Parliament Street and Main Street Station, as crews upgrade the overhead wiring. Passengers must transfer between buses and streetcars at Parliament Street and Gerrard Street East. In early spring 2021, the TTC is closing the bus and streetcar terminal at Main Street Station, while crews rehabilitate the pavement for about one month. The transit agency will extend the path for replacement buses along Danforth Avenue to Victoria Park Station.

Broadview Avenue water-main replacement

In May 2021, the City will start replacing the water main on Broadview Avenue north of Gerrard Street East. During this time, streetcars along the 304 / 504B King and 505 Dundas routes do not operate on Broadview Avenue. Shuttle buses operate between Broadview Station and King Street and Parliament Street. All 504 King streetcars will turn back at Distillery Loop and 505 Dundas streetcars will turn back at Broadview Avenue.

Dundas West Station streetcar platform expansion

In fall 2021, the TTC is replacing the tracks and expanding the streetcar platforms at Dundas West Station, to reduce delays when streetcars enterthe terminal. During construction, streetcars and buses will not serve the terminal. The TTC will detail service changes and alternate stop locations later in 2021.

Lake Shore and Kipling track upgrades

In fall 2021, TTC is also replacing track at the intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard West and Kipling Avenue and in Kipling Loop. Expect detours during the intersection work.
