Starting Monday, November 24, crews are investigating underground utility locations along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day. This work will help contractors prepare for the next phase of rapidway construction.
Crews will be using a hydrovac truck — a truck-mounted vacuum — to dig potholes, where they can investigate the location of various utilities between just north of 19th Avenue / Gamble Road and Highway 407.
They’ll temporarily block alternating north- and southbound lanes on Yonge Street and temporarily close east- and westbound lanes, at some intersections as they move along the corridor.
Expect noise from the vacuum.
Wherever possible, crews will keep sidewalks open. If they block a sidewalk, they’ll place directional signs to guide pedestrians to the nearest available sidewalk.
Traffic control staff will be at each work site to guide vehicles and pedestrians.
Work continues for about four months, or until March 27.
