TTC revises services, May 11

The TTC is making a number of changes to its services tomorrow, Sunday, May 11.

Many of these are seasonal — every May, the TTC starts decreasing service on routes serving colleges and universities and increasing service along those that serve the waterfront and other summertime attractions.

This time, many of the changes relate to major construction, as the TTC tries to keep buses and streetcars on time while construction for the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit project and the project to build new tracks to and from the Leslie Barns Streetcar Storage and Maintenance Facility block streets and intersections over the next few months. Various other road construction projects across the City are also affecting service.

The TTC is revising service along these routes: 5 Avenue Rd; 7 Bathurst; 28 Davisville; 29 Dufferin; 31 Greenwood; 34 Eglinton East; 35 Jane; 36 Jane; 37 Islington; 41E Keele express; 44 Kipling South; 45 Kipling; 45E Kipling express; 46 Martin Grove; 51 Leslie; 54 Lawrence East; 54E Lawrence East express; 56 Leaside; 60 Steeles West; 61 Avenue Rd North; 65 Parliament; 66 Prince Edward; 72 Pape; 76 Royal York South; 83 Jones; 85 Sheppard East; 86 Scarborough; 90 Vaughan; 92 Woodbine South; 94 Wellesley; 100 Flemingdon Park; 101 Downsview Park; 112 West Mall; 116 Morningside; 133 Neilson; 134 Progress; 143 Beach / Downtown express; 172 Cherry St; 301 Queen overnight; 301 Queen overnight shuttle bus; 501 Queen; 501 Queen shuttle; 502 Downtowner; 503 Kingston Rd.

Specifically, the TTC is: increasing service along routes; decreasing service along routes; increasing the frequency of service along routes; decreasing the frequency of service along routes; revising the paths of buses operating along routes; decreasing service to colleges and universities; resuming seasonal service; adjusting the schedules of routes; and making other changes to service along routes.

Transit agencies often interline two or more routes with a common terminal to save resources - meaning the number of drivers and the number of vehicles to provide service along the routes. For example, late evenings, when a bus operating along the 61 Avenue Rd North route arrives in Eglinton Station terminal, it leaves the station to serve passengers along the 51 Leslie route. After completing a round trip along the 51 Leslie route, the bus returns to the station and then proceeds along the 61 Avenue Rd North route.
