Update — Tuesday, July 9, 6:07 a.m.: Due to the heavy rainfall and clean-up afterwards, construction at Queen Street West and York Street and the detours continue until Monday, July 22, instead of Monday, July 15, as the City and TTC originally announced.

This week, starting Monday, June 26, the City of Toronto and the TTC started a project to upgrade the streetcar tracks and roadway along York Street between Queen and Wellington Streets West.

Since York Street has been one-way northbound street since the late 1960s the project will also see the TTC removing the southbound tracks along the street and rehabilitating the junctions at Queen, Richmond, Adelaide and King Streets West.

Tomorrow, Saturday, June 29, it’s completely closing the intersection of Queen Street West and York for this project and for a related project to repair a water main on Queen West. You can learn more about TTC detour routing resulting from this phase of the project here.

Construction will block the Queen West / York intersection until Saturday, July 27.

The TTC is also detouring buses operating along the 72A Pape via Commissioners route and streetcars operating along the 503 Kingston Rd tripper route during the York Street project.

Construction continues until November.

You can read more about the project to replace the streetcar tracks along York Street here and here.
