Subway construction blocks eastbound Highway 7 lanes,
starting January 13

York Region, City of Toronto and TTC contractors continue working to build the future Vaughan Centre subway station — part of the project to extend the 1 Yonge - University - Spadina subway beyond Downsview Station to York University and Vaughan.

Starting yesterday, Friday, January 13, the work blocks the eastbound curb lane of Highway 7 between Interchange Way and Jane Street from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. seven days a week until February.

During this phase of the work, construction crews are relocating utilities and drilling to prepare for excavation. They’ll be using a drill rig and other heavy construction equipment beside the eastbound lanes of Highway 7.

The City of Vaughan has approved amending its noise by-law amendment to let the contractors perform overnight and weekend work, if required, reduce long-term disruption and keep the project on schedule.

York Region Transit passengers riding buses operating along the 77 Highway 7 / Centre route and Brampton Transit passengers riding buses operating along the 501 Züm Queen route should expect detours and delays. (If the ongoing YRT / Viva labour disruption ends before February, the work should also affect service along the Viva orange route.)
